Last Wednesday 14 Feb 2024, all students took part in the Ash Wednesday Mass at St Christopher’s Church. Each year, Ash Wednesday starts the beginning of Lent and is always 46 days before Easter Sunday. Lent is a 40-day season (not counting Sundays) marked by repentance, fasting, reflection, and ultimately celebration.
Fr Ralph spoke to the students about trying to be a better person during this time. Part of this mass involves participants receiving ashes in the shape of a cross on their forehead. This signifies a commitment to trying to be a better person.
The Tuesday before Ash Wednesday is known as Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday. Traditionally during Lent, Christians would give up rich, tasty foods such as butter, eggs, sugar and fat. Shrove Tuesday was the last chance to eat them. Many people used these food items to make pancakes. Some of our senior students provided each student with a pancake and topping
