Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday and Lent on the Christian calendar. Making pancakes is a tradition that was developed as a means of using up rich foods such as eggs, milk, and sugar before the 40 days of fasting during Lent. On Tuesday 4th of March, students enjoyed some pancakes and learned about why this day occurs.
On Wednesday 5th of March, we marked the beginning of Lent with a meaningful Ash Wednesday service, attended by both students and parishioners. In the Catholic tradition, the season of Lent offers a special opportunity to focus on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Throughout this sacred time, our students will explore how they can make a difference in the lives of others through their participation in the Caritas Australia, Project Compassion initiative.
